Contract Training Information for Tutors

Lámh Contract Training is for services who have identified a need for Lámh training but who don't have access to a qualified Lámh Tutor at this time. Each year approx 35 contract courses are organised around the country.

Becoming a Lámh Contract Tutor

  • You must have completed the Lámh Tutor Training Course more than 2 years previously.

  • You must have a current Contract for Service with Lámh.

  • You must have previously delivered the specific course required. All standard Lámh courses, (with the exception of the Lámh Tutor and Family Trainer courses), are available as Contract Courses.

What is the process?

  • The Host Group contacts the Lámh Development Office to express interest in organising a Contract Course.

  • The Lámh Development Office provides the Host Group with information about course costs, fees, and materials BEFORE Tutors are contacted. The Host Group does NOT receive a list of Lámh Tutors from Lámh.

  • The Lámh Development Office matches the Tutor to the group. Courses are allocated on a turn-by-turn basis dependent with location considered and tutors in the region are notified by email - outlining details of the Host Group, geographic area and proposed timeframe. Interested tutors must reply to the Lámh Development Office to express their interest.

  • The Host Group and Lámh Tutor agree all course arrangements, including date/s, times, venue and equipment requirements, participant numbers and other relevant background information.

  • The Lámh Tutor will order the required materials from the Development Office no later than 3 weeks prior to training. The materials will be paid for by the Host Group. Course Materials will be sent directly to the assigned Tutor for distribution to participants during training.

  • The Lámh Tutor delivers the training course as agreed.

Tutor Fees (2019)

Please note that Tutor fees are set by the Lámh Development Office.

  • Modules One Lámh Course €540.00
  • Module One Add-on Workshop for Communication Partners of Children who use Lámh €350.00.
  • Module One Add-on Workshop for Communication Partners of Adults who use Lámh €350.00.
  • Little Lámh €180.00.
  • Family Lámh Course €1,100.00.
  • Family Lámh Course Part 2 €350.00.

  • QQI Level 5: Using Lamh in a Total Communication Approach.€2,000.00.

  • Following training: i. Lámh Tutor returns any unused materials to the Lámh Office. ii. Lámh Tutor forwards participant list and evaluation forms to the Lámh Office. iii. Lámh Tutors completes a short online (Survey Monkey) feedback form.

  • The Lámh Tutor invoices the Host Group. The Host Group pays the tutor fees directly to the Lámh Tutor.

  • Lámh Tutors are responsible for their own income tax. Some Host Groups, e.g. The Department of Education, may retain tax at source.

What does the Host Group do?

  • The Host Group organises the course venue room and identifies participants.

  • The Host Group arranges the the course - room and equipment, heating, public liability insurance.

  • The Host Group organises breaks and lunches for participants.

  • The Host Group sends through pre-course information to participants - dates, times, collection of participant course fees.

  • The Host Group pays for the course materials. The Lámh Development Office will send out an invoice for these materials to the Host Group.

  • The Host Group pays the Tutor directly on receipt of an invoice from the Tutor.

What do the fees include?

  • Fees include the course delivery, travel and expenses, time spent planning, documentation preparation.

  • Fees do NOT include course materials.

SESS Contract Courses

  • The Special Education Support Service funds up to 16 Lámh Contract Courses during each school year.

  • Lámh Tutors can be put in touch with other Tutors who have previously delivered SESS-funded Contract Courses to teachers who attend these Module One courses - many of whom who are working in ASD units - please let the Lámh Development Office know if you would like to speak to one of these Tutors.

  • The Tutor Course Materials for Module One Add-on Workshop for Communication Partners of Children includes references and reading about the use of signs and AAC with children with autism. These references can be found on pages 13-15 of the Tutor Lesson Plan.
