Training for Families
The Lámh Family Course
The Lámh Family Course provides families with the opportunity to learn Lámh signs and some of the skills required to support sign use. The course focuses on communication, encouraging use of sign, as well as a core vocabulary of over 120 signs.
The Family Course consists of:
-
4 sessions
-
2 and 1/2 hrs each session
-
plus Follow-up session
-
Attended by: family, brothers and sisters and those close to the family
-
Materials are supplied at the course
Courses are delivered by Lámh Tutors, who are speech therapists, nurses, care staff, teachers, etc., working in services and delivering Lámh training as part of their role.
If your service provider doesn't have a Lámh Tutor on the staff team, they may have a link with a local service that runs Lámh Training, or they may use Contract Training to find a Tutor to run a Family Course.
Each service is different, so ask the speech therapist, teacher or team about the Lámh Family Course. Services can find out more about Lámh Tutor Training and Contract Training from the Lámh Development Office.
Families who are using Lámh signs may also be interested in the new Lámh-a-Song DVD and book, launched in July 2009.
