Feedback on Lámh Tutor Training 2008

Feedback on Lámh Tutor Training November 2008

Hands joined together symbolising unity

This was a very successful training event with 25 participants from 14 agencies in attendance.  86% of participants found the course 'excellent' or 'very good' with the remaining participants rating the training as 'good'.  100% of participants found the actiivites, exercises and facilitators supported their learning.

'Very interactive course and excellent environment for gaining confidence in Lámh.'

'Facilitator was very dedicated - great at accuracy - went through all signs in detail - I feel confident that I can run signing gorups as she was such a good tutor.'

Particpants were mixed in  their evaluation of the length of the training.  Some participants felt that the training oculd be delivered in 2/3 days with others seeking more time as they felt a little 'rushed'.  Different elements of the 4 days of training was identified as the 'most liked' by individuals.

'Group discussions/activities; practical exercises'

'Day Two presentations'

'Activities'

'Time given to discuss things with other tutors and other professionals who have a key role in implementing Lamh in their workplace'

'Signing and presentation practice'

These comments are very reassuring as the training programme was designed to include a range of training methods to insure participants with different learning styles were accomodated, and that the Lámh training skills would transfer back to the worksite easily.  Although the training was very positively experienced, when asked, the group gave us some suggestions for improving the trianing.

'PowerPoint presentation for Module Two would be invaluable'

'Surprised that the course was not IASLT accredited'

'Slides Module One are ok but could be improved on'

'More time on going through the Tutor Folder'

'Instructions made clearer and in writing'

'Details of the presentation for the last day'

Key areas to consider before the next training course is delivered:

  • Development of a Powerpoint for Module Two needs to be agreed
  • Review Tutor Plan and PowerPoint presentation taking feedback from this training session into account
  • Participants appear to want more time on going through the Tutor Folder
  • Discussion is required on how to give feedback to participants at the end of Day 4
  • For a group that size, two groups for sign assessments may be sufficient
  • More information on training skills/experience of applicants is required
  • Location of training to be decided - this course was in Dublin, last one in Portlaoise ('06), before that Tullamore ('05)
  • Look at IASLT accreditation and CPD
