Lámh Tutor Training 2011

Lámh Tutor Training will be held in March & April 2011 in Dublin.  This course will train candidates to deliver Lámh courses to families and staff members.

 

The Lámh Tutor Training Course provides intensive trainer training to professionals whose work largely involves supporting Lámh users and their families in a service setting.

On completion of the Lámh Tutor Training Course, participants will be certified to deliver the Lámh Family Course to families of Lámh users and Module One and Module Two Lámh Courses to staff members .

Course dates:     9th & 10th March and 14th & 15th April 2011 (participants must attend all 4 days)

The course includes:
• 4 training days (delivered in 2 blocks of 2 days) covering:
           Course content of Lámh Family, Module One & Module Two courses

This intensive training course assumes participants’ background knowledge in supporting people with intellectual disability, in communication support and service provision, as well in-depth knowledge of Lámh signing in practice.   This course builds on participants’ existing skills by training them to deliver standardised Lámh courses for families and staff members.

All applicants must be in a position to deliver Lámh Courses following training.

 

To be offered a place on this course, applicants must:
1.  Have completed Modules One and Two more than one year prior to the Tutor Course (or previously the Five-day Lámh Course);
2.  Be working in the sector for 1 year or more;
3. Be using Lámh regularly in their work and have experience of Lámh use in a variety of settings;
4. Have a FETAC Level 6 qualification or higher in the following areas:
Speech and language therapy, nursing, social care/sciences; psychology, special education, occupational therapy, early childhood studies or cognate area;
5. Demonstrate experience of delivering information and training to others;
6. Identify the setting where you will be running Lámh training.

 

In preparation for applying to the course, interested parties are now asked to start to identify the setting where you will run your first Lámh course.

 

To become an accredited Lámh Tutor, participants will:
1. Attend all four training days;
2. Organise and deliver a Lámh Course within one year of training;
3. Prepare and deliver a sign group activity during the second block of the course;
4. Work as part of a team to prepare and deliver a short presentation during the second block of the course.

Please Note:  Applications must be approved by the Lámh Board of Directors before places are offered on the course.  You may be asked for additional information to support your application.
